H2S and Mercaptan (RSH) in Water and Gasoline

Method Abstract #28

Scope and Application

This method conforms to ASTM Method D 3227 and UOP 212 & 163. Sample types include water or gasoline.

This method is used to analyze H2S and/or Mercaptan (RSH) in aqueous and gasoline samples. This method automatically detects H2S when it is present and reports only the mercaptan when it is present. In the petrochemical industry, the aqueous sample (caustic in nature) strips H2S from the gasoline stream, therefore, the aqueous sample should have considerable amounts of H2S while the gasoline will contain minimal amounts.
